a Brighter Future for Long Island
BUILDING
Powering Our Communities
with Clean Energy
-
Offshore wind and clean energy upgrades reduce pollution, improve air quality, and support New York’s climate goals.
-
Projects like Empire Wind are creating thousands of union jobs, upgrading infrastructure, and boosting local economies.
-
Battery storage and renewables strengthen energy reliability, protect critical services during outages, and lower long-term energy costs.
Long Island is at the heart of New York’s energy transformation and can lead the State in delivering energy abundance.
With clean energy and advanced battery storage projects, we are building a resilient, sustainable future for all.
Myth Busting:
Setting the Record Straight
FACT
Studies show that offshore wind projects have virtually no impact on marine ecosystems, whales, or birds. In fact, turbine foundations can create artificial reefs, enhancing marine biodiversity. Offshore wind in the U.S. is developed with strong protections for wildlife—and climate change is a far greater threat to birds, which offshore wind helps fight.

NOAA. (2023). Frequent questions: Offshore wind and whales. https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov;
MYTH
Offshore wind farms harm birds and marine life.
FACT
The cost of renewable energy has plummeted.
Wind and solar are now among the cheapest sources of new energy generation — and will help lower Long Islanders’ electricity bills over time.

MYTH
Renewable energy is too expensive, and these developments will drive up costs for consumers.
FACT
Today’s battery systems are engineered with rigorous safety standards and multiple layers of protection.
They are safe, monitored, and vital for a reliable clean energy future.

MYTH
Battery storage is dangerous, and can lead to fires in my community.
FACT
There’s no scientific evidence linking transmission lines electromagnetic fields (EMFs) to health risks. The EMFs they produce are extremely low-frequency, similar to those from everyday appliances like microwaves. These cables are buried and shielded.
National Cancer Institute. (2023). Electromagnetic fields and cancer. https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/causes-prevention/risk/radiation/electromagnetic-fields-fact-sheet
MYTH
Radiation from transmission cables are dangerous.
FACT
Turbines are located miles offshore and most are barely visible from the coast. Meanwhile, they deliver massive environmental and economic benefits to our communities.

MYTH
Offshore wind projects will ruin our pristine ocean views.
